"When people say thank you and express gratitude it gives me happiness. This is an achievement for me, "she added.

Talking about the situation during the lockdown, Dongre said: "Fisherman maintained social distancing guidelines while fishing. All measures were taken by Trivandrum city police. Police continuously addressed issues of people."

On calling her woman IPS officer, Aishwarya said: "I strongly deny any attribution on the basis of gender. Once I joined the Indian Police Service we are officers irrespective of our genders. The gender binary has nothing to do with our duty."

"Going by the numbers, women officers are less in comparison to men in this field. But, it does not prove that there is any such discrimination. Women work hard as men. They even add a sense of sensitivity in this field, which helps to connect with people in a better way, " she added.

She urged that all women should realise that are strong and should identify their identity beyond gender.

Aishwarya, who completed her graduation in Economics and Political Science from St Xavier's College in Mumbai has cleared the UPSC examinations in the first attempt with rank 196.

The officer is trying to learn Malayalam as she has been posted for the first time in Thiruvananthapuram.

Talking about the people of Kerala, she said: "Keralites are aware of their rights and responsibilities. They are very loving too. I am just learning the language and culture. We can work together to make Kerala a better place."

Aishwarya said: "The COVID-19 situation is grave and worse in Maharashtra. I miss my hometown but I have no complaints as it is all part of my work."

As a police officer, the security of the nation and its people are above everything else, said Dongre.
