Palakkad (Kerala): In an unfortunate incident, an elephant was found dead near Veeti colony in Kerala's Palakkad district.
According to reports, the five-year-old elephant had been in the area for the past four days and was found to be extremely tired and weary at the time of its death.
Besides, the swelling was also noted in the elephant's mouth.
Meanwhile, forest officials informed that the autopsy procedures will be conducted on Saturday.
Following the autopsy, the actual reason for the elephant's death might be known.
The development comes weeks after the death of a pregnant elephant in the district had sparked nationwide outrage.
As per the statement of the accused, who was a rubber tapper, potassium nitrate was filled into a coconut and left on the boundary of a rubber plantation, on the forest fringe.

The workers do this for hunting wild boars for meat and the elephant had accidentally come across the bait, an official had said.
Earlier, it was suspected that the 15-year-old elephant might have consumed a pineapple filled with powerful firecrackers which exploded in its mouth in the Silent Valley forest.
It died in Velliyar River a week later on May 27 and the incident caused a huge uproar in the country.
