A debt-ridden Kerala farmer was compelled to commit suicide by consuming poison after he started facing recovery proceedings from banks. He had taken a loan of Rs 10 lakh from 3 different banks.

Wayanad: A 53-year-old farmer named Dineshan allegedly committed suicide in Neervaram Dasanakara village near Panamaram in Wayanad district of Kerala by consuming some poisonous substance, police said on Saturday.

The farmer was rushed to hospital on Friday night by his relatives and died this morning, they said.

Financial burden had forced the man to take the extreme step, relatives said.

Police said he had taken a loan of Rs 10 lakh from three banks and was reportedly facing recovery proceedings.

Relatives stated that he received an attachment order from the bank in the year 2016. Later, the rising pressure of repaying loan compelled him to take this step.
