Kozhikode (Kerala): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State leadership is hopeful about E Sreedharan’s induction into the party and his willingness to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The BJP leadership is attempting to cash in on Sreedharan’s popularity and goodwill. Besides, winning in one constituency, Sreedharan’s image in the development arena is expected to be beneficial for the Party in the State.
The State leaders have decided to give membership to E Sreedharan at the venue of Vijaya Yathra led by BJP State President K Surendran. BJP is also mulling over fielding Sreedharan at Thrissur or Ernakulam. Sreedharan had earlier stated that he has decided to join the BJP based on his nine years of experience. He also added that he is willing to contest in any seat if the Party wants him to.
Earlier, during the Lok Sabha elections also, there were rumours that E Sreedharan is joining BJP. The BJP leaders had also discussed with Sreedharan. However, he was not ready to respond to it then.
In the run-up to the General elections, BJP national leaders had discussed with Sreedharan again and asked about his interest. It is being hinted that his party entry decision happened after this meeting.
BJP National leadership had directed the State leadership that popular persons with public acceptance must be brought into the party before the elections in the State. As part of this, more public figures are expected to join the BJP in the coming days. The new entrants to the party would be given membership at the main venues of BJP’s Vijaya Yathra across the State.
