This Diwali, celebrate the festival with eco-friendly cow-dung diyas

After the introduction of hybrid cattle, indigenous cattle were ignored by people that led to an indiscriminate increase in its numbers. To create funds and put to use every element of the goshalas, the workers came up with this innovative and eco-friendly diyas made out of cow dung.

Doddaballapur: With eco-friendly being all the fad and the festival of Diwali fast approaching, now environmentally responsible people can buy earthen lamps made out of cow dung to light up their surroundings in the true festival spirit.

This Diwali one can try this different kind of diya made of cow dung prepared in Rashtrotthana Goshala near Ghati Subramanya in Doddaballapur taluk of Karnataka, decorated without any harmful colour or adornments.

After hybrid cattle were introduced in the market people started preferring them compared to the indigenous ones. As a result, country cattle were sidelined. This led to a rapid increase in their number and their use went on decreasing. Thus Goshalas were started by the government to protect country cattle, but the goshalas had to wait for government grants for their maintenance.

It is then the Goshalas came up with various ideas for funding their own earnings. For this, they have got support from the government also under which they are utilizing all the products of milk, curd, ghee, cow dung, etc.

That's why the innovative idea of making diyas out of cow dung came around and about.

Currently, there is a demand for 3 crore diyas and among them, 50 lakh are prepared in Goshala.

An appeal has been made to the Animal Welfare Board, the Department of Animal Husbandry, the Department of Agriculture, and the Muzrai Department to help the Goshala workers in delivering the diyas.
