Yadgir (Karnataka): A woman in Karnataka's Yadgir, despite reeling under utter poverty, has set an example for others by making her daughter’s future bright.
Lalithamma, a resident of Hosalli Tanda, lost her husband when she was pregnant. Later, she took to begging and brought up her daughter single-handedly. With no proper work, she went begging from house to house and faced a lot of hardships. Despite several odds, she did not let her daughter feel the difficulties of life.
Lalithamma, who belongs to Sillekyatha backward community, has provided worthy education to her daughter Gangamma. The latter has passed MA, MSW and has received training to appear for KAS and UPSC competitive examinations.
Gangamma took interest in learning since primary school days. She completed her primary and secondary education at the government school at Lingeri village and later completed second PUC and degree at Yadgir and Gurumathkal. Gangamma received MA and MSW degrees from Gulbarga University.
Gangamma says she is well aware of the troubles that her mother faced to educate her. She too has gone to school and college without food several times to study and achieve something in life. Now, Gangamma is determined to face the competitive examinations confidently and come out with flying colours. She has received training for the purpose in Bengaluru. Lalithamma wants to see her as an IAS, IPS or a KAS officer.
Lalithamma, who still lives in a thatched hut, has sacrificed everything for the bright future of her daughter. Thus, she has become a role model for others. Here is a salute to indomitable spirits, like her, on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
