Karwar (Karnataka): Like the rest of India, the state of Karnataka has been badly hit by the deadly Covid pandemic, but one village in the southern state did not report even a single case ever since the outbreak started in March last year. The successful fight against the virus has been attributed to the strict measures enforced by its people.

Koleranga village of Haliyala Taluk in Uttara Kannada district has a population of 250 people, who are mostly in the dairy business. The villagers restricted themselves and stopped venturing out of the village. No outsider was allowed to enter the village as well. Two villagers were assigned to supply provisions and necessary items to the locals and they stayed outside the village. The local people also told their relatives not to visit the village for two months.

Most people in Koleranga have also been vaccinated, which helped the village stay safe from Covid-19. The villagers are also enforcing measures to prevent a possible third Covid-19. Koleranga village has become a model for the rest of the country in fighting the pandemic.
