Karnataka polls 2023: Elderly woman, man die at polling booths

A 68-year-old woman died while casting her vote at a polling station in Karnataka on Wednesday. The tragedy struck when the elderly woman Paravva Ishwara Sidnala aka Panadi turned up to cast her vote at the polling booth.

Belagavi/Hasan (Karnataka): A 68-year-old woman died while casting her vote at a polling station in Karnataka on Wednesday. The tragedy struck when the elderly woman Paravva Ishwara Sidnala aka Panadi turned up to cast her vote at the polling booth. The incident happened when the polling process was underway for the Karnataka assembly elections in the Belagavi district. The elderly woman had come to exercise her franchise at the polling booth situated in Yarazarvi under Yaragatti. The woman while casting her vote collapsed inside the polling booth and died.

Police said the woman Paravva had come to cast her vote as the polling process was underway for the assembly elections. "The woman before casting her vote, collapsed inside the polling booth. The woman was hailing from Yarazarvi village falling under the Savadatti Yallamma assembly constituency, the police added.

Whereas in a separate incident, a man died of a heart attack while coming out of a polling station in Hasan district of the state. The tragedy took place when the voter was coming out of the polling booth after casting his vote. The deceased has been identified as Jayanna (49). The incident took place at Chikkole village in Belur taluk of the district. Jayanna suffered a heart attack and died on the polling station premises.

Meanwhile, the voting for the 224-member Legislative Assembly across the state began at 7 am on Wednesday. The Karnataka assembly polls in 2023 witnessed a high-voltage campaign. Political parties BJP, Congress and JDS are strong contenders in the poll arena.
