Bangalore: Actor Chekwume Malvin who has worked in various films has been arrested by the Karnataka police on charges of drug peddling, on Wednesday.

The arrested artist has worked in more than 20 Bollywood, Kannada and Tamil movies, among others.

Malvin has acted in films such as Vishwaroopam, Singham, Anna Bond, Dilwale, Jamboo Savari, and Paramathma, among others. He has also essayed roles in three Nollywood movies.

He was nabbed from a building in HBR Layout in East Bengaluru following a tip-off. Police have recovered ₹8 lakh worth of Hash oil and MDMA from his possession.

Sources said Malvin who has a great liking to be featured on the tinsel screen could not land any roles in any of the movie industries across the country. He switched to pedal drugs to businessmen and college students to eke a living.

He had come to India on a medical visa and had taught acting at the New York Film Academy in Mumbai. In 2006, he took acting training for six months at the New York Film Academy in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, said sources.

Malvin has been booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
