Bengaluru: Karnataka's Medical Education Minister Dr. Sudhakar lodged a complaint with the Cyber offences wing of the State police over suspected email spoofing.
As per the complaint lodged by the minister, fraudsters used fake email identities mimicking government addresses to defraud institutions in the city.
The conmen created and used fake email addresses using the minister's name. The issue came to light after the special officer to the minister, Giri Gowda, noticed fake emails imitating Dr. Sudhakar, being used to extort money. Emails were sent to educational and healthcare institutions in Bengaluru asking 'help to buy gifts from Amazon.'
The fraudsters created and used email addresses of government officials to communicate with different firms.
As a precautionary measure, Dr. Sudhakar lodged a complaint in Cyber Economic Narcotics (CEN) police station in Bengaluru.
The Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
