The Karnataka Legislative Council is scheduled to convene on December 15, Tuesday, when the state government will attempt to pass pending bills, including the controversial anti-cow slaughter amendment bill. BJP is also expected to push the no-confidence motion against chairperson K Pratapachandra Shetty.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Legislative Council that has been called for a day-long session on Tuesday is expected to be stormy as the ruling BJP is likely to insist on its no-confidence motion against the Chairman, and the tabling of anti-cow slaughter bill is also on the cards.

According to sources, BJP is expected to push the no-confidence motion against chairperson K Pratapachandra Shetty and able the anti-cow slaughter amendment bill in the council session which was not listed in the agenda.

The official agenda, however, includes the contentious anti-cow slaughter bill, question hour, the government's reply on the discussion on the flood situation and 'calling attention' notices.

BJP will table the anti-cow slaughter amendment bill called Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill-2020 in Legislative Council session.

The controversial anti-cow slaughter bill was passed in the Karnataka Assembly on Wednesday, with the Congress members staging a walkout in protest. The ruling party may also call for a no-confidence motion against the council Chairman Prathap Chandra Shetty, sources said.

Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Kageri Hegde had adjourned the proceedings of the lower house on December 10 after members cited gram panchayat elections. The session was to go on from December 7-15.

Meanwhile, Chairman Shetty had on Wednesday adjourned Council proceedings sine die saying that he needed to take legal opinion on the BJP's attempt to move a no-confidence motion against him.

The BJP leaders alleged that the Council Chairman did not have the powers to adjourn the House abruptly. It was decided during the Business Advisory Committee meeting, where the Chairman was present as well, that the session be conducted on Tuesday.
