Mangalore: A private hospital in Karnataka is said to have demanded Rs 10 lakhs to release the bodies of a woman and her son who succumbed to Covid-19.

The woman died a week ago and the hospital in Mangalore charged Rs 8 lakhs for her treatment. Later, after the death of her son, the hospital asked the family to pay Rs 10 lakhs to release their bodies, according to their relatives.

A leader with the Congress party Suhail Kandak intervened and the cost of treatment was reduced to Rs 4.6 lakhs. Relatives also claimed the woman and her son were administered 14 doses of Remdesivir, which they said may have caused their deaths.
