Rashmi, a psychiatrist, working at a private hospital on Bannerghatta Road was introduced to the Koppal based couple when she was working at the SDM Hospital in Hubbali in 2014. The couple was treating their daughter with Rashmi for mental illness.

Over the time, the couple was tired of treating their daughter but to no avail. At this time, Dr. Rashmi has given them a suggestion of surrogacy.

However, she came out with a different plan of stealing a newborn baby and hand it over to them.

She planned to steal baby at a government hospital. To execute her plan, she has gone to two to three hospitals. On May 29 last year, Rashmi came to Chamarajapete government hospital and abducted Husnabanu's child and escaped.

A case was registered at Chamarajapete station in connection with the incident. After a continuous operation lasting one year, the team led by PSI Srinivas of Talghattapur has tracked the child.

Based on the CCTV footage and the network tower dump captured in connection with the child theft case police conducted inquiry. Mobile numbers of thousands of people were collected based on the tower location during the kidnapping and the police team interrogated about 800 people.

Initially, Rashmi maintained that the child was adopted legally but she eventually cracked during the interrogation revealing her child theft.

The police who have tracked the case have taken the child to the city from a rented parent, but the child will be handed over to the parents after the police will conduct various tests, including DNA test. The mother was delighted as the baby was discovered.
