JD(S) Dharme Gowda allegedly commits suicide

Chikmagalur (Karnataka): JD(S) leader and deputy chairman of Karnataka legislative council SL Dharme Gowda allegedly committed suicide in Chikmagaluru.   

According to sources, his body was found on a railway track near Gunasagar in Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.  

Dharme Gowda left home alone in his car on Monday evening. As he did not turn up by night, police along with locals began a search operation and his body was found on the railway track on Tuesday morning. According to reports, a suicide note has been recovered.  

The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Reacting to the news, former PM and JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda said, "It is shocking to learn the news of Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Council and JDS leader SL Dharmegowda's suicide. He was a calm and decent man. This is a loss of the state."

It is to be noted that on December 15, the Karnataka Legislative Council witnessed high drama on Tuesday with members hurling abuses and pushing each other with Deputy Chairman S L Dharme Gowda being pulled down from the Chairman's seat over a row pertaining to the no-confidence motion initiated against Chairman K Pratapachandra Shetty.
