Karnataka ministers unhappy with new portfolios

Seven new ministers were inducted and some existing ministers were given new portfolios in the recent reshuffle of the Cabinet in Karnataka.

Bengaluru: Following the portfolio announcement of new ministers who took an oath of office on Wednesday as a part of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's 17-month old cabinet expansion, resentment among many ministers has come to the fore.

The dissatisfied ministers, Gopala Gowda, Narayana Gowda and M. T. B. Nagaraj are holding a meeting at Dr Sudhakar's residence.

Expressing his displeasure over the allocated portfolio, Gopala said, "I have given better service during Corona which even centre appreciated."

MTB Nagaraj is also upset with the excise ministry and said he had resigned from the post of Housing Minister when he was in other party but now he is being given the same ministry in which he is not interested.

Sudhakar said, "I have managed the medical education ministry well along with health ministry. But medical ministry is taken away from me which is disappointing."

The new portfolio list was sent to the Raj Bhavan for the governor Governor Vajubhai Vala's approval.

While seven new ministers were added, a few old ministers were given new portfolios as a part of the reshuffle.

S Angara - Fishing, Harbor and Inland Transport

Arvind Limbavali - Forest Department

Murugesh Nirani - Mines and Geology

R Shankar - Department of Public Administration

Reshuffled portfolios

Home Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai has been allotted the ministry of legal and parliamentary affairs earlier held by J. C. Madhu Swamy.

Madhu Swamy has been given the Department of Medical Education, Department Kannada and Sanskrit.

The health Ministry was given to Dr Sudhakar. Fisheries, port and inland water transport ministry was taken from Kota Srinivas Poojary who is given only Backward classes welfare department and Muzrai department.

The forest Ministry has been taken from Anand Singh and tourism Ministry has been allocated to him.

Prabhu Chauhan has been retained in the Animal Husbandry department while all other ministries have been taken away.

Labour Department is in the hand of Shivaram Hebbar.

Horticulture and Sugar ministry has been issued to Gopaliah and Ministry of food department has been taken from him.

Narayana Gowda has been given the ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Department of Hajj and Waqf.
