Karnataka farmer inspires many with integrated farming

Sharanagowda of Tarakasapeta village in Kalburgi district developed integrated farming after watching videos on Youtube, which earned him the 'Ensemble Agriculture' award from the authorities.

Kalburgi: A farmer in Karnataka has been inspiring many fellow farmers after his success with integrated farming, which he developed after watching videos on Youtube.

Sharanagowda of Tarakasapeta village in Kalburgi district was engaged in horticulture and wanted to do something new in agriculture. He planted fourteen different kinds of crops, including sandalwood and mango on his farm and travelled around the country for guidance from horticulture experts.

Mango, sandalwood, sapota, neem, java plum -180, custard apple, gooseberry, mahagon and rosewood are among the 14 varieties of crops he planted in his farms. "I have mixed farming with the help of the Forest Department and Horticulture Department for the first time. I have planted 2,700 varieties of orchards on three acres. I have succeeded in this form of farming", he said.

The Department of Agriculture has honoured Sharanagowda with the "Ensemble Agriculture" award for his farming practices.
