Following deaths of family members due to COVID, depressed mother-son duo commit suicide

A mother-son duo from Bengaluru has committed suicide after being depressed about the death of their family members due to Covid-19. The two jumped in front of a train to end their lives.

Nelamangala (Bengaluru Rural): Depressed over the death of their family members due to coronavirus, a mother-son duo ended their lives here in Bengaluru. The two committed suicide by jumping in front of a train.

Rekha (40) and son Manoj (22) were the residents of Somashettyhalli of Bangalore North Taluk.

Rekha's husband Shivaraj succumbed to coronavirus in October last year. He was hospitalized and died on Oct 20th, 2020. Her mother Shivambika also died of the deadly virus 9 days after Shivakumar's death on Oct 29th 2020.

Rekha and her son Manoj were mentally depressed by the death of two family members and were unable to cope with the distress. They took the drastic step to end their lives

India reported 2,73,810 new COVID-19 cases and 1,44,178 discharges in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry. According to the Ministry, 1,619 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Karnataka has a total of 1,161,065 Covid-19 cases, with 19,067 cases detected in the last 24 hours. The state has registered 13,351 deaths so far.
