A major fire broke out at an apartment in Devarachikkana Halli, Begur on Tuesday afternoon. Two people have died in the inferno.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): A major fire broke out at an apartment in Devarachikkana Halli, Begur on Tuesday afternoon. Two people died and five suffered severe burn injuries.

Two dead in fire accident in Bengaluru

A preliminary investigation revealed that a gas leakage caused the fire accident. The fire quickly spread to other flats. With a protective grill around the balcony in most of the flats, people were trapped as the fire spread. A video of a woman engulfed in the fire has gone viral. Two women Bhagya Rekha and her mother Laxmi Devi perished in the fire accident.

Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

South Zone commissioner Ramakrishna and DCP Srinath Joshi rushed to the spot and inspected the rescue operation. Police and fire department personnel said the fire occurred due to domestic gas leakage. The entire apartment was evacuated after the fire. The incident was reported to the fire department between 4.35 and 4.40 pm and the fire tenders reached the place at 4.55 pm, the fire department officials said.
