Bengaluru (Karnataka): We live in a patriarchal society where most rituals are performed by a male priest but contrary to that, women priests perform puja at Maramma temple in Karnataka's Koramangala city.
The Maramma temple is 90-year-old and women priests have been performing puja here for the last 50 years. Puja is offered twice a day in this temple.
According to sources, the temple attracts a number of devotees every day. They have this perception that their lives will prosper if they offer puja to the deity.
During Navaratri, the temple decks up and special puja is offered for the period of nine days.
It is to be noted that Sundaramma, chief administrator of the temple, along with her five daughters has been looking after the administrative affairs of the temple for the last 40 years. They not only look after the administrative affairs of the temple but also take proper care of devotees.
