Bengaluru : In a major success against cyber fraudsters, Bengaluru Police on Saturday claimed to have busted a Rs 854 crore cyber fraud scam by arresting six cyber fraudsters who allegedly cheated thousands of victims across India in the guise of investment scheme. A Bengaluru police spokesman said that they ahve frozen Rs 5 crore of the duped amount.
According to the Bengaluru Police spokesman, the cyber fraudsters lured the victims through messaging applications Whatsapp and Telegram. The gullible victims were trapped by investing huge amounts of money ranging from Rs 1 lakjh to Rs 10 lakh after being promised high returns by the fraudsters. Police said that the fraudsters initially asked the victims to invest smaller amounts to win their trust.

Police said that once the victims deposited the money, it was dumped into different bank accounts through online payments. When the victims tried to withdraw the money, they could not thereby making them realize that they had been duped by the fraudsters. Later, the victims approached the Bengaluru cyber police and lodged a complaint into the matter.
In the subsequent investigation, police found that a whopping Rs 854 crore was dumped into various online payment modes through crypto (Binance), payment gateway, gaming apps among others, by the cyber fraudsters. Police have identified suspicious numbers and blocked over 15,000 SIM cards as part of a campaign against the cyber fraudsters. Police said that the SIMs were being misused by the cyber criminals to lure and cheat residents of Bengaluru city.
