Missing man's funeral held with dummy in Jharkhand

Sumit Bhagat along with a friend went missing from Hiradah during a picnic on November 16 and remain untraced despite best efforts, according to reports. His family carried out the last rites using a dummy.

Gumla: The family of Sumit Bhagat who went missing on November 16 in Hiradah conducted his funeral using a dummy as he remained untraced.

Three youths including Sumit went missing of which the body of one was found but even after weeks no news of the other two came and the family members decided to conduct the funeral for Sumit.

A group of six youths from Gumla town had gone to Hiradah, a tourist destination for a picnic. When all of them came down to the river to swim, one of them started drowning due to the strong current. Three others tried to save him, but could not succeed.

When the news reached, a large number of people gathered at the spot, however, the trio could not be found.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team also tried to find the youths for three consecutive days but remained unsuccessful.

Later, the body of Abhishek Gupta was recovered by local fishermen.
