The prescription form of a doctor in Jharkhand created ruckus in the state assembly. The doctor in question allegedly prescribed condoms for a patient suffering from stomach pain.

Ranchi: A doctor from the state of Jharkhand is being probed for allegedly prescribing a contraceptive method to a woman suffering from abdominal pain.

According to reports, a woman employee went to a government hospital in Ghatshila complaining about abdominal pain on July 23.

Later, she alleged that Dr Ashraf Badar, the doctor in-charge at that time, prescribed a form of contraception as a cure for the pain.

The events came to light when the woman arrived at the medical store with the prescription form, where she was duly informed that prescribed medicine was a condom.

Besides, the issue created a ruckus in the state assembly as well when Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator Kunal Sarangi raised the issue following the complaint filed by the woman.

Based on the complaint, a three-member medical team with one psychiatrist was constituted to probe the entire issue.

The team began their investigation on July 28 and prescription form along with medical registry was seized from the district hospital.

"Based on the complaint of the woman, a medical team has been constituted which has started the probe," Dr Prabhakar Kumar Bhagat, a member of the inquiry team, said.

However, the doctor in question has claimed conspiracy behind the incident and accused the other medical staff of fudging the issue.

The incident is being reported at a time when the doctor-patient relationship in the country is worsening following repeated cases of assaults on doctors and medical practitioners demand for better working conditions.

Ranchi, July 28 (IANS) A doctor who allegedly prescribed condom to a woman who was suffering from stomach pain is facing a probe.



A class 4-grade woman employee went to Asraf Badar for stomach pain treatment on July 23 at the Ghatshila government hospital of West Singhbhum district here. Asraf who works on contract in the hospital allegedly prescribed condoms to the woman. 



The woman went to a medical shop with the prescription where she informed by the shopkeeper that the prescribed medicine was a condom.



The issue was raised by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislator Kunal Sarangi in the assembly after the woman complained about the matter to senior doctors. Based on the complaint, a medical team with one psychiatrist was constituted to probe the entire issue, which began the probe on Sunday. 



"Based on the complaint of the woman, a medical team has been constituted which has started the probe," Shankar Tudu, in-charge of the Ghatshila sub-divisional hospital, told reporters.



The doctor in question has denied the allegation.
