Union Home Secretary to chair crucial security review meeting in Srinagar today ahead of Kashmir G-20 meetings, Amarnath Yatra

The meeting will review security arrangements for the maiden upcoming G-20 summit in Kashmir and the annual Amarnath Yatra-2023.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Ahead of the upcoming G-20 summit in Kashmir and the annual Amarnath Yatra-2023, union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla will chair a crucial security review meeting in Srinagar, local inputs said. Besides Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau and top security officials are participating in the meeting.

It is learnt that Union Home Secretary and Director Intelligence Bureau are flying to Srinagar today for the meeting. Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh, ADGPs of Kashmir and Jammu, Vijay Kumar and Mukesh Singh, GoCs of 15 and 16 Corps, IGPs of CRPF and BSF are participating in the meeting.

Sources said that the arrangements for the maiden upcoming G20 meetings in Srinagar and the annual Amarnath Yatra will be reviewed at the meeting. Besides, the recent militant attacks in Poonch and Rajouri in which 10 soldiers were killed and matters related to law and order are also expected to come for for discussion, sources said.

The maiden G-20 meetings in Srinagar are scheduled in Srinagar for May 22-24. The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administration J&K administration has trumpeted the event as a great opportunity to showcase the tourism potential of the J&K and to give a global push to the UT’s tourism. Sources said that during the Yatra, Lakes and Rivers will be handed over to the MARCOS while NSG will be deployed along with the special operation group (SoG) of the police for fool-proof security cover for the G-20 events that are supposed to be held at SKICC on the banks of famous Dal Lake.

Besides the G20 meetings, the arrangements for this year's Amarnath Yatra will also be reviewed. Pertinently, the Central Reserve Police Force is imparting a special training to its personnel to deal with the threat of sticky bombs during the annual Amarnath Yatra 2023.
