Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir): The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested two overground workers and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession in Mendhar subdivision of Poonch district on Sunday, officials said. A police official said that the arrested OGWs identified as Mushtaq Ahmed and Nisar Ahmed have been arrested in a case under FIR number 42/2023 of Police Station Gursai, registered after Apr. 20 Army vehicle ambush attack in Bhata Dhurian in which five army personnel lost their lives and another was injured.
As per the police spokesman, a search operation was launched by police following “sustained and professional questioning and upon the disclosure statement of the accused persons Nisar Ahmed, son of Mohd Shareef and Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Mir Mohd-both residents of Gursai Moori area of Poonch district.

The accused duo has been booked in a case under FIR number 42/2023 under sections 302, 307, 120B, 121, 122, 436 IPC, 3/4 Explosive Substance Act, 7/25, 26/27 Indian Arms Act, 16/18/20 UAPA Act registered at Police Station Gursai. During the search operation launched on the disclosure of the accused OGW Mushtaq Ahmed, two Chinese grenades, one AK magazine, 30 bullets of AK rifle, one hammer and chisel used for construction of hideout and a Pakistan made cigarette packet were recovered by the police, the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, from the house of arrested OGW Nisar Ahmed, police said, two Chinese grenades, 60 AK bullets, two AK magazines and Rs 19,000 cash have been recovered. Besides, from the hideout used by militants, police recovered two blankets, one damaged magazine, 24 AK bullets, one tape recorder, one plastic sheet, two steel plates, two steel glasses, some medicines, dry fruit wrappers, chips and biscuits.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
