Udhampur: City police on Sunday night arrested six smugglers with a consignment of six kilograms of charas and cash of Rs 1 lakh from the Third Area, about five kilometres from the district headquarters.
According to the police, smugglers from Srinagar and Jammu are involved and a deal was about to take place. The Police are now looking for the main accused.
ASP Rajendra Singh Katoch said that the police had received concrete information related to charas smuggling. Acting on a tip-off, DSP headquarters Rohit Chadgal and SHO Vijay Chaudhary formed a team and raided the place.
The police team spotted a Tavera (JK03D6434), two Scooties (JK02 BS-5440 and JK02 CJ-0708) in the Third Area. Six kilograms of charas and cash of Rs One lakh were recovered from the passengers.
Nisar Ahmed, resident of Moman Dangit Pora (Anantnag), Irfan Ahmed, resident of Babora (Shopian), Samrat Mughal and Aamir Chaudhary, both residents of Gujjar Nagar (Jammu), Nazir Mohammad, resident of Sunjwa, Azind Mohammad, resident of Bathindi (Jammu) were arrested in connection with this.
The ASP said that it is for the first time, a case of drug dealing has come to light in Udhampur involving smugglers from Srinagar and Jammu.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
