Partial strike observed on Burhan Wani's fifth death anniversary

Srinagar: On the fifth death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, Srinagar today witnessed a partial strike with business establishments closed and public transport remained off the roads. In Srinagar's Shehr Khaas area, shops and other business establishments remained closed, but people and private vehicles were seen plying on the city roads.

A few days back, a post calling for a strike on July 8 and 13 got viral on social media. However, police termed it as "fake." Police have also warned for legal action against those spreading rumours on social media.

Meanwhile, security forces have also stepped up necessary arrangements in the area. "Internet services will not be suspended but surveillance will be increased," IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said on Wednesday.

Interestingly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Wasim Bari, his father and brother were also killed by militants outside their house in Bandipora on July 8, 2020.
