Srinagar: Pakistani troops on Wednesday morning resorted to heavy mortar shelling on the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a befitting retaliation by the Indian army.
There was no report of any casualty on the Indian side in the shelling, a defence spokesperson said.
"Today morning, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing arms and shelling with mortars along LoC in the Uri sector. Indian Army retaliated befittingly," the spokesperson said.
On Monday, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian army was killed in heavy shelling by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Rajouri district of Jammu division.
It was the fourth casualty in ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the past five days.
