Civilian killed, 2 injured in Pakistan shelling in Jammu and Kashmir

Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms & intense shelling with mortars in Mendhar and Balakote sectors on Wednesday. A civilian was killed while two others suffered injuries in the incident.

Poonch (Jammu and Kashmir): An elderly civilian was killed and two others injured as Pakistan shelled mortars in Poonch district's Mendhar sector on Wednesday.

Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing small arms & intense shelling with Mortars along LoC in Balakote and Mendhar sectors at about 2 am. The firing stopped at around 2:45 am.

Indian Army retaliated befittingly.

This was the second ceasefire incident in the Balakote sector within a week.

The ceasefire between India and Pakistan came into force in November 2003, but Pakistan has been frequently violating it.

According to security agencies, Pakistan uses the firing to provide cover to terrorists infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir.
