Police identified the body as that of missing ward leader Nissar Ahmad Bhat who was reported missing on August 19.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): A bullet-riddled body of a missing ward leader has been recovered in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, officials said on Friday.

"The body of Nissar Ahmad Bhat was recovered from the orchards of Dangam. There are several bullet marks on the body, " a senior police official said.

According to the official, Bhat was missing since August 19, 2020.

"Bhat was a panch from Pampore's Khonmoh area. Recently, an unverified clip regarding his killing had surfaced on the social media, " the official said, adding that the matter is already being investigated.

In the audio clip on social media, the unidentified persons claimed to have killed the man adding that they would “not return the body due to the pandemic” and that “no resignations will be accepted from anyone now”.
