Arms and ammunition recovered from militant hideout in J&K's Ramban: police

The hideout was busted during a search operation by J&K Police Special Operations Group (SOG) Banihal in the Burzalla forest area.

Banihal (Jammu and Kashmir): The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition during a search operation launched in the forest area of Ramban district. A police official said that a search operation of J&K Police Special Operations Group (SOG) Banihal was launched in the Burzalla forest area.

The search operation was launched in the woods following specific inputs about a hideout of militants in the area. During the ensuing search operations, suspected hideout locations were searched, the police spokesman said. He said that the police busted a militant hideout and recovered arms and ammunition from the hideout.

The recovered arms and ammunition include two Rifle grenades, one UBGL thrower, two IED types with wire, one Detonator with wire and 17 AK47 cartridges among other things. An FIR has been registered at Police Station Banihal while further investigation into the case is underway, police said. Pertinently, the busting of the hideout and recovery of arms and ammunition comes over a month after the security forces carried out a similar operation in Handwara area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

The operation was carried out on Mar. 13. During the search operation, the Kashmir police claimed to have busted a terror hideout in Handwara of north Kashmir. Around the same time, Army recovered a consignment of arms, narcotics, and a suspected material, believed to be an IED in Lam forward of the Saryah area in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri.
