Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mehrajuddin Malla, who was allegedly abducted by unidentified men in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir has been rescued by the cops 12 hours after the abduction.
Malla, who is also the Vice-President of Watergam Municipal Committee was allegedly kidnapped at Marazigund in Rafiabad area of the district while he was on his way to Sopore town.
“Mr Malla has been rescued by police,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, adding that the further details will be shared after investigations and other legal formalities are completed.
Earlier, a senior police officer had claimed that Malla was whisked away by "unidentified men" in a car.

"Police had launched massive searches to trace the abducted BJP leader," the official had said while being not sure about the abductors being armed.
The incident comes less than a week after BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari, his brother and father were shot dead by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.
BJP leader Sheikh Waseem Bari, his father Bashir Ahmed and brother Umar Bashir were injured when militants opened fire on them outside Bari's shop near police station Bandipora. They were rushed to the district hospital where they succumbed to injuries.
