Shimla: As the counting of votes in the Karnataka Assembly Elections goes on, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi offered prayers at the Jakhu temple in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla on Saturday morning. Her party has taken a dominant lead in early trends and looks set to win the southern state.
Interestingly, Jakhu is the temple of Bajrang Bali, the deity Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked in his speeches multiple times while slamming Congress whose manifesto called for banning rightwing organisation Bajrang Dal. Priyanka reached the temple to offer prayers soon after early trends showed Congress leading in Karnataka.
"Today Congress General Secretary Smt. @priyankagandhi Ji offered prayers at the famous Jakhu Hanuman Temple in Shimla and prayed for the country's happiness and prosperity," tweeted Congress as they shared a picture and video of her offering prayers in the temple. During her visit, Priyanka Gandhi also met several elderly women who too had reached the temple to offer prayers.

Several users congratulated Priyanka and Congress for the likely Karnataka win. Reacting to the tweet, a user wrote: "Pooja did the magic .... a single speech turned the tide in Karnataka." Many other users responded with "#JaiBajrangBali", a slogan BJP, including PM Narendra Modi, used heavily during the Karnataka campaign.

Priyanka and her mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrived in Shimla on Friday on a private visit. Rahul is also expected to join them. As for Karnataka, Congress has close to the halfway mark in early trends and given the silence from BJP, the grand old party, it seems, will be able to stop the saffron one from creating history. Priyanka, apart from Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, led the high-voltage campaign for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
She addressed several rallies, held various roadshows and met people on the ground as the Congress worked hard to wrest power from the BJP, the party that would want to break the 38-year-old pattern of alternating governments and retain its power in the state.
