Shimla (Himachal Pradesh): A priest has been arrested after over 11 kg of charas was recovered from his possession in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Tuesday, police said.

Bewa Ram, a resident of Viyogi village in Banjar Tehsil, was arrested with 11.876 kg of charas in the early hours on Tuesday, Kullu SP Gaurav Singh said.

The SP also said that the accused was a pujari (priest) of a local deity.

A team of the Banjar police station raided Ram's premises and recovered the contraband.

The charas (cannabis) was grown locally, the SP said, adding that further investigation is underway.
