Chandigarh: There has been a huge uproar in the country on the recent farm bills which were introduced in the parliament during its monsoon session. All-round opposition was seen against these bills. Haryana's politics is also changing its stance on these agriculture bills.
The ruling party BJP and Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) have faced different paths in pursuance to the lathi charge on farmers.
The JJP is saying that the lathi that went on the farmers has run on Devi Lal's family and the matter should be investigated. Whereas the Home Minister Anil Vij says that when there was no lathi-charge per-se. Then what is the need for an investigation?
Political pressure on JJP increases
After the resignation of Punjab Akali Dal leader and the Modi government’s cabinet minister Harsimrat Kaur, political pressure has started increasing on JJP. Congress leaders say that had the JJP understood the interests of the farmers, they would have withdrawn support from the BJP, but they have nothing to do with the farmers.
Not only political pressure but also the burden of accountability is on the rise for JJP from the side of farmers as well. Indian Farmers Union State president Gurnam Singh Chadhuni has demanded Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala’s resignation. He said that Dushyant Chautala should be ashamed.
What do political experts believe?
Political experts believe that the JJP is under immense pressure at the moment as it claims to be farmer welfare-oriented and does politics on the name of Devi Lal. But the question is whether this pressure will affect the alliance between JJP and BJP or not?
On September 10, the lathi charge done on farmers at Pipli in Kurukshetra have now brought the two allied parties in a confronting position to each other. Although the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) are claiming to be on the same page on the new farm laws, differences remain on the issue of recent lathi charge on farmers. It will be interesting to see how these differences play out in the relationship between these two parties.
