Gurugram: Migrant workers trying to enter Haryana from the Palam Vihar area here on Wednesday pelted police officials with stones after they were denied entry in wake of the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.
A lot of workers from Delhi and NCR region commute to Gurugram on a daily basis for work. A video of them pelting stones at the officials has appeared on social media.
"Keeping in view the stone-pelting incident, we have deployed additional police to tackle the situation," said Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan.
After the Delhi government allowed shops to reopen subject to certain conditions, residents on both sides of the Delhi-Gurugram border move between the two cities for trade and other jobs. They have demanded smooth passage on the inter-state border.
The Gurugram authorities have claimed that number of coronavirus-infected persons in the district had increased due to people moving in from Delhi.
Gurugram has so far reported 220 positive cases, including 102 active and admitted in different hospitals.
It is to be noted that Haryana government has declared all 22 districts of the state as orange zones. It has also permitted the functioning of industries in the state. However, any person coming from another state into Haryana still has to take permission from state government.
As per the Haryana Police, there is a situation of conflict in between the police forces of the two states as the other side is not stopping workers from commuting to other states.
