Yamunanagar(Haryana): To protect and conserve the rapid groundwater depletion, the government has started 'Jal He Jeevan' scheme in Haryana.
Radaur town of Yamunanagar district has also been included in the scheme under the pilot project. Eight blocks of the 7 dark-zone districts of the state have been covered under this scheme.
In these blocks, 50000 hectares of land has been set to produce maize. The important aspect of this is that the farmers will be given free seeds by the government.
The instalment of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) will be borne by the government and the subsidy of Rs.2000 will be sent to farmer's account before August 31.
Not only this, the state government will also buy the maize crop at fixed price from the farmers.
Rakesh Agarwal, Block Agriculture Officer, said that eight clusters of 82 villages have been chosen to connect farmers to this scheme in Radaur. Agriculture Development Officers are visiting villages to inspire the farmers to join this scheme.
"Farmers have also welcomed the government's plan. So far 492 farmers of the Radaur block have been registered offline and 68 online. Farmers also need to understand the importance of water, otherwise, water crisis problem will further deepen in the days to come," added Agarwal.
