9 foreigners linked to Tablighi Jamaat nabbed in Ambala, sent to jail

Ambala police have arrested nine foreign nationals linked to Tablighi Jamaat for violating their entry and visa norms and negligent acts likely to spread infection of coronavirus disease, dangerous to life.

Ambala (Haryana): As many as nine foreign nationals linked to Tablighi Jamaat have been arrested by Ambala police on Friday for violating their entry and visa norms and negligent acts likely to spread infection of coronavirus disease dangerous to life.

The identities of the arrested persons are yet to be ascertained.

According to police sources, all the arrested accused were presented in the district court on Friday, which sent them to judicial custody at the Central Jail Ambala.

"These foreigners, 8 of Nepal and 1 of Sri Lanka violated their entry and visa norms as they are on a tourist visit to India. They indulged in missionary activities of their community, which is against the rules. Two Indians are managers of a mosque in Mahesh Nagar area of Ambala, where these foreigners were provided shelter despite the lockdown and outbreak of Covid-19," said, Rajnish Yadav, SHO, Mahesh Nagar PS.

The police investigation revealed that these TJ workers had arrived in Ambala after attending the congregation at Nizamuddin.

"These TJ workers were presented in the court which sent them to judicial custody. They were booked on April 2 and after completion of their quarantine period, they have been now arrested and legal action has been initiated against them," Yadav added.

Police have initiated a further investigation to nab other accused linked with this, sources added.
