Anand (Gujarat): A 63-year-old man, Shantilal Rana, was tested positive for coronavirus on April 29th and was admitted to Shri Krishna Medical Hospital in Gujarat's Anand district for treatment. Though his second corona report came out as negative, he died due to co-morbid conditions, health officials said.
Rana's family members could not come to receive his body as they were under quarantine. So the hospital authorities asked the Tehsildar of Khambhat municipality to collect the dead body and perform the last rites. Following which the staff of the Khambhat municipality brought the body to Hariom Nagar cemetery.
However, locals were shocked to see the people wearing PPE kit and started pelting stones at them. Realizing the seriousness of the incident, the DySP, Anand Province Officer, and Vidyanagar Police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the locals.
The crowd suddenly started hurling stones at the police in which two policemen were injured. Police then charged with batons and burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
