Surat (Gujarat): Sunita Yadav, the woman police constable from Surat whose strict action led to the registration of an FIR and arrest of a Gujarat minister's son, said that she will resign for her future.
On a live session on social media platform Facebook, Yadav said that she would submit her resignation, as she wanted to prepare herself for becoming an IPS officer.
"I am resigning for my future, so that I can prepare myself. I want to work hard and return as an IPS officer. Then I can explain things better to those talking about power," Yadav said.
The woman constable said that many of her colleagues, including women in the department, wanted to do good work, but were not able to due to the pressure from higher-ups.
Further, Yadav said that it was a 'friend of police' that stood by her on the day of the incident, or else she could have been another 'Nirbhaya'.
"There was a 'friend of police' that day. I do not know who he was, but for me, he was like a God. If not for him, anything could have happened to me. People would have taken out a candlelight vigil for another Nirbhaya," she said.
"I want justice, but I don't feel one has to necessarily fight for justice," she added.
The woman cop asked people to keep supporting her so that her courage remains intact while fighting against the system.
Yadav further said that she was being harassed, with many people calling her and knocking at her door.
"People keep calling me and knocking at the door. I know they are not from the media. I do not want to take any names," she said.
Earlier, an audio clip of a heated exchange between the woman police constable and the son of a Gujarat minister and his friends, who allegedly violated lockdown and threatened her when questioned, had gone viral.
The clip reportedly featured constable Sunita Yadav and Prakash, son of Varachha Road MLA and Minister of State for Health Kumar Kanani, and his friends.
The incident allegedly took place around 10.30 pm at Mangadh chowk in Surat on Wednesday (July 8) night, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) PL Chaudhary.
Subsequently on July 12, the son of the Minister and his two friends were arrested for allegedly violating the lockdown and night curfew orders.
