New Delhi: In a bid to ensure plastic-free Delhi, the civic authorities on Sunday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the organiser of a Bhandara in the city for using plastic glasses and thermocol plates.
The organiser of the event, Vinod Kumar had also not taken proper measures to collect and dispose of used plates and littered the nearby ground.
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), in order to bring awareness against the use of polythene bags, distributed around 35,000 pamphlets, disseminating harmful effect of the polythene in various markets and weekly bazaars and tehbazari markets.
Under the 'Swachhta hi Sewa' campaign instructions have also been issued to the field staff to be vigilant and take appropriate action against the violators as per the law.
The civic body has also been appealing to people to shun single-use plastic in keeping with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
