Police arrest Sachin Pilot and Pramod Krishna heading to Sitapur in UP

Congress leader Sachin Pilot along with Pramod Krishna who were heading to Sitapur to meet Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi were arrested in Muradabad.

New Delhi: Police have arrested former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot and Congress leader Pramod Krishna in Muradabad on Wednesday. The leaders were heading to Sitapur to meet Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi who was arrested in Lucknow when she was heading to Lakhimpur Kheri to meet farmers. Sachin was accorded warm welcome at the Ghazipur border by the Congress leaders and party workers when he arrived Ghaziapur border.

Earlier in the day, the police administration allowed Pilot along with four Congress leaders to visit UP. Following which party workers staged a sit-in protest at the border and a tense situation prevailed between the police and the cadre.

After sometime, police re-opened the blocked road and allowed Pilot's convoy along with party workers to visit UP.

After reaching Chhijarsi toll plaza Pilot said, "we want to go to Sitapur to meet Priyanka Gandhi, after which we will go to Lakhimpur and meet the families of the deceased farmers to express our condolences. We are not disrupting law and order in any way."

The Pilot also lashed out at the BJP-led state government and said, "Yogi government will sooner pay for their attitude. We want to go to Lakhimpur to wipe the tears of the families of the deceased farmers. We request police not to stop us unnecessarily."

While on the other hand a delegation headed by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi left for violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri. The delegation includes senior party leaders Bhupesh Baghel, Charanjit Channi, KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala.

Meanwhile, Congress has knocked the doors of Rashtrapati Bhavan and the National Human Rights Commission in connection with the arrest of Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi who was arrested illegally.

In the complaint, the Congress stated that "the UP police officers have violated the constitutional rights of women mentioned in CrPC Section 46. According to the law if a woman is being arrested during the night in special circumstances, then a warrant issued by the Magistrate is necessary. Priyanka Gandhi was arrested illegally."
