Railways to run 40 clone trains from September 21

Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that 20 pairs of special 'clone trains' will be deployed from September 21. These clone trains will be in addition to the 310 special trains which are already in operation.

New Delhi: After experiencing a huge passenger traffic, with long waiting list of tickets for specific routes, Indian Railways has announced 20 pairs of special 'clone trains' which will start to run from September 21, 2020.

This is for the first time in history of Indian Railways that Clone trains have been introduced on the routes having high patronage, aiming to meet the demand.

These clone trains will be in addition to the 310 special trains which are already in operation. In an official statement, Ministry of Railways informed that these clone trains will run on notified timings and will be reserved trains. The stoppages will be limited to operational halts.

The reservation for these clone trains will start from September 19 and the advanced reservation period will be of 10 days. Out of these 20 pair of clone trains, 19 pairs will run by utilizing Humsafar rakes. However, one pair of Lucknow to Delhi clone train will run as Jan Shatabdi Express. Fare of both the rakes will be charged same as the orignal trains.

During a media briefing, last week, the Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav told reporters, "Railways will monitor all the trains that are currently in operation to determine which trains have a long waiting list."

"Whenever there is a demand for particular train wherever the waiting list is long we will loan train ahead of the actual train so that passengers can travel easily," he further added.

While some of these 40 trains will run on a daily basis, there are some which have been scheduled once in a week. Trains from Amritsar-Jaynagar, Varanasi-New Delhi, Ballia-Delhi will run thrice a week.
