Police R&D distributes sex crime evidence kits

In the past few months, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has successfully distributed more than 15,000 Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits (SAECKs) to various police administration across the nation.

New Delhi: Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in the last few months has distributed more than 15,000 Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits (SAECKs) to police administration in states and UTs.

Sources said, apart from distributing SAECKs, many officers have also been trained by BPR&D and National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences in collection, handling and transportation of forensic evidence.

"We have been trying to build a strong evidence collection method in order to combat crimes against women. Of late, cybercrime has become a major concern, so we are providing training to the officials to deal with it," said BPR&D Director General VSK Kaumudi.

Home Ministry in 2019 initiated a move to distribute Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits which are designed to carry emergency medicolegal investigation and help in furnishing evidence in cases of sexual assault against women.

Further, the Home Ministry, earlier this year also launched Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences. ITSSO is an online mechanism to monitor and track time bound investigation in sexual assault cases against women.

"Use of anti-drone technology has become a critical juncture in modern day warfare. In fact, BPR&D has been giving extensive training to police officials across the states and UTs. The BPR&D which was set up in 1970 for modernisation of police forces has also been concentrating in developing non-lethal weapons," BPR&D Director General VSK Kaumudi elucidated.
