Guru Gobind Jayanti sparks celebration, uniting communities in reverence; PM Modi pays homage

On the occasion of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh's birth anniversary, PM Modi took to X to pay his homage to the 10th Khalsa guru and recounted his tale of courage and compassion. Sharing an audio clip as tribute.

New Delhi: Today marks the birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Gobind Jayanti also known as Prakash Parv is celebrated on the 17th of January.

Today commemorates the 357th birth anniversary of the last Khalsa Guru. Born on the 6th Dec 1666 to Guru Teg Bahadur (9th Sikh Guru) and Mata Gujri. After his father was killed in 1956 by Aurangzeb ( Mughal emperor) refusing to convert to Islam, Guru Gobind was proclaimed as the 10th Guru at the age of 9 on Baisakhi.

He is remembered and known for his roles as a fabled warrior, poet, philosopher, and for his teachings. He epitomized the qualities of courage, wisdom and compassion, holding a special place in the hearts of Sikh community and beyond.

On the day of his birth anniversary people celebrate by delving into his teaching and the path he illuminated, visiting the gurudwara and engaging in community service, take part in Langar and lighting candles.

Prime Minister Modi paid homage to the Sikh guru Gobind Singh, PM Modi said on X, "I pay homage to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji on his Parkash Utsav and recall his courage as well as compassion. His life remains a source of strength for several people." Sharing a touching audio clip of his paying tributes to the Guru on earlier occasions.
