New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on his 71st birthday, wishing him a long and healthy life.

"Birthday wishes to our energetic Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu Garu. May he lead a long and healthy life," the prime minister tweeted.

"He has also been exceptional as the Chair of the Rajya Sabha," Modi said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished Vice President Naidu on birthday.

Born on July 1, 1949 in Andhra Pradesh's Chavatapalem, Naidu was thrice elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka and served a period from 1998 to 2014.

In 2002 he was appointed as the BJP President and on May 26, 2014, he took oath as the Union Minister of Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs.

On August 5, 2017, Naidu got elected as the Vice-President of India.
