New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra on Friday congratulated the women of the country for the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in both houses of the Parliament. Addressing the BJP workers and leaders at party headquarters, he said that history was made on September 20, 21 as the women's quota bill was passed in the lower and upper house on these days.
He said that there were many obstacles in the way of this women's quota bill. But when intentions are pure and there is transparency in attempts, we witness results overcoming all obstacles. It is a record in itself that this bill got so much support in Parliament. I thank all political parties and Members of Parliament for it.
He said, "I congratulate the mothers and sisters of India. It is our privilege that people gave us this opportunity to create this history. Women's Reservation Bill is an announcement of India's new democratic commitment. It is not an ordinary law. The unanimous passage of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' (Women's Reservation Bill) in the Parliament proves that a strong and decisive government is important to take the nation forward."
During the ceremony dedicated to celebrating the historic decision, he said, "We took decisions for the betterment of women at all levels and did not let anyone's political interest become an obstacle in the way of the bill."
He was accorded a warm welcome at the BJP headquarters by the party's women's wing, a day after Parliament passed the women's quota bill. A large number of women were present at the party office to greet the Prime Minister. BJP President JP Nadda and women Union Ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani were present on the occasion.
