New Delhi: The Congress is largely contesting alone in the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh after being rebuffed by the Samajwadi Party -Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) combine. The Congress is hoping for a revival after Priyanka Gandhi took to active politics in the state.
In an interview with ETV Bharat, Deputy Chief Minister of UP Keshav Prasad Maurya, stated, "Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi undertook a boat ride from Prayagraj to Varanasi to bolster the Congress party's prospects but the party will sink anyway."
"I don't feel that her entry into UP's electoral politics will have any impact on us. She was earlier also a leader of Congress. The Ganga in which Mrs Vadra took the boat ride, is the picture of Modi Government's work on the ground level." he stated
The BJP leader also said that his party is confident of winning the Amethi parliamentary constituency represented by Rahul Gandhi.
Maurya further said, "I am of the opinion that SP, BSP and Congress are all one entity."
The BJP had won 71 out of 80 seats in the state in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, while its ally, the Apna Dal won 2. The Congress won two and the SP five. The seven-phased Lok Sabha elections are scheduled from April 11 to May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
