Northeast connecting with mainland India: Kalyan Barua

In an interview, New Delhi based senior journalist Kalyan Barua said that the Modi government has been trying to mark inclusive growth in northeastern states. He said all northeastern states have witnessed a transformation. Centre has also tried to utilise the skills of youths in northeastern states with the help of national skills mission.

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has been trying to mark an inclusive growth in the landlocked northeastern states.

"Whether it's infrastructure or connectivity, all the northeastern states have witnessed a transformation," feels Kalyan Barua, a senior journalist based in New Delhi.

Barua, who hails from northeast said that many projects were earlier initiated by the Congress Government, but now they are getting implemented by the BJP regime.

"The present government has focussed on infrastructure development. They tried to connectivity," said Barua.

In fact, all the state capitals in Northeast are getting connected through railway routes. Roads are getting constructed.

As per government records, the roads and highways constructed in the northeastern region in the past four years include 15,187 km or road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 1652.86 km of road under Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and 669,79 km of road under schemes of Northeastern council.

Air connectivity is also comparatively increasing. Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh and Pakyong in Sikkim are now connected by airways.

Centre has also tried to utilise the skills of youths in northeastern states with the help of national skills mission.

Under Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2.0 of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, an allocation of Rs 323.16 crore has been made for the northeast, out of which funds to the tune of Rs 81 crore has been utilised.
