New Delhi: As dense fog enveloped several parts of north India on Saturday, over two dozen Delhi-bound trains remained delayed across northern railways due to low visibility.
The fog seems to have affected the smooth running of trains in the northern region. The journey is getting troublesome for passengers who have to spend hours waiting for the trains.
The passengers present at the New Delhi Railway station told ETV Bharat that trains are getting delayed in large numbers but Indian Railways is not keeping them informed about the same.
A commuter- Sheshnath Paswan, who was waiting for the departure of Mahabodhi Express said, "My train is delayed by four hours from the scheduled time and I got to know about the same once I reached here. Moreover, the main problem that we are facing is that we are not receiving information about the delayed arrival and departure time of the trains via SMS."
Angry over six-hour delay, another commuter-Anirudh Tiwari said," I didn't receive any information regarding the rescheduling of the train. I am very hungry as I haven't eaten anything since morning."
Denying all the allegations raised against Indian Railways, Chief PRO of Northern Railway Deepak Kumar said that the operation of trains has been affected due to dense fog in the region and passengers are being informed about the rescheduling of trains through various means.
He further said, "Railway passengers either do not provide a mobile number at the time of reservation or submit the number of their relatives. The message of rescheduling of the trains goes to their relatives and nothing can be done in that case."
"Indian Railways are carrying out their responsibilities well to reach their passenger safely to the destination," Kumar added.
Several Delhi-bound trains like Mahabodhi, Howrah Duronto, Kanpur Shatabdi, Purva Express departing from New Delhi were rescheduled on Saturday.
