New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials on Sunday arrested two Nigerian nationals with 15 kg of a narcotic substance called ephedrine and 260 grams of heroin in Delhi. Ephedrine is a controlled substance under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused have been identified as Kenedy (36), a resident of Uttam Nagar and K Achukubu (33) of Mahroli area.
NCB officials said they received information that two Nigerian nationals were indulged with the smuggling of the substantial quantity of drugs and they were living in New Delhi with fake identities.
Acting on reliable information, the accused persons were intercepted by NCB sleuths and checking their houses resulted in the recovery of white coloured crystal powder which is purportedly ephedrine. NCB sleuths have seized a total of 15 kgs of ephedrine and 260 grams of heroin from their places.
An official said, "In this case, the heroin and ephedrine, were smuggled to various parts of Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Mumbai. They have the past criminal history of smuggling contraband. We are interrogating them for details about the operations of the syndicate and other wanted members associated with them."
"The agency is now trying to trace the network of this cartel in several countries including Nigeria and other African countries. We have contacted our counterparts in Nigeria requesting for additions to the information obtained from the arrested smugglers," the official added.
